So I'm sure everyone knows of Leap Frog! If you don't know then you'd have to be living under a rock! Leap Frog is a leading toy company that makes technology-based educational products for kids of ages!

From 0-12months - 8+ years old, Leap Frog makes something for everyone to first help them explore social play, and learn their first words, then to help nurture their independence as young preteens.

Makenna was sent the Tag! Reader System (32MB) that comes with 1 book - The Cat In The Hat. She was also sent "The Little Mermaid - Adventures Under The Sea" book because it especially encompasses phonetics, as well as reading comprehension.

At the beginning of each book it gives a reference with pictures and words that help the child understand what each little picture does: A book=Read The Page, Play button=Read The Story, A Red Square=Stop, A Star=Games... etc.

It's easy to use the Tag Reader (the pen provided) to make words talk, and pictures sing, engaging your child the whole time. Pretty much everything on the page will make a sound. With "The Cat In The Hat": if you click on a tennis racket then you hear a strumming sound, or if you click the ball then you hear a bouncing sound.

Of course The Little Mermaid book ended up being Makenna's favorite. You get a story plus activities featuring Cinderella & Jasmine at the back of the book. With the activities it has definitely helped Makenna learn comprehension and recognize letters and the sounds they make a lot better.

If you look at the picture above the child needs to touch letters on the list then find the word or picture that starts with those two letters. There are 3 levels to the game, you have your child click on the picture with 1 star (on the very bottom right corner) then there is 2 stars next to that & then 3 stars. They cannot move to the next level until they complete the one previously. This has helped us a lot! Makenna knows her letters and sounds but then connecting the two and understanding how they make a word has been a challenge for her but with this game she has begun to spell words out to me (oh goody... no more spelling out special things to Daddy so you can't understand, lol)!

I do have to say, at first I was a little worried the Tag! would be doing all the work for Makenna and she wouldn't really be learning to read since it was reading for her. But Makenna now is trying to say the words before the Tag! gets to it and she is also sounding out the words by herself.

With the Tag! they earn points and can also play games online. If you connect your Tag! Reader to your computer using the USB cord provided. When they complete levels in the games they earn points which will unlock games so that's a little incentive for them.

Makenna brings her books EVERYWHERE with us and reads them constantly! Her Papa (my dad) loves them because it keeps her busy when she's riding in the car with him or staying over for a visit.
