"Showering Mommy & Baby" Giveaway Event! - Ouchies Review & Giveaway

By Jennifer (Double Duty Mommy) at 6:06 PM 151 commented

**CLOSED**

Winner: Random.org #128 - Katy
--Winner has been emailed. She has 48hrs to respond before a new winner is chosen--
A Thank You to Ouchies & to all of you wonderful readers who entered! :)

---------------------

"Hide your wound, not your style!"

"Bandages that make a fashion statement!"
If you have kids then you definitely know a must have are band-aids. As soon as we run out I know that's the day I'm going to need one. Makenna is prone to falling and tripping over her own feet somehow. Even the slightest little scratch she thinks she needs a band-aid.

When I found Ouchies, I thought it was the coolest thing ever and I knew Makenna would love them! No more Barbie or My Littlest Ponies band-aids here.
Ouchies makes cool band-aids that shows off your child's style & personality!

We were sent the Ouchies 4Girlz
Each tin comes with 20 adhesive band-aids - 4 of each style. Makenna's favorite is the "Flower Power" one because of the colorful flowers.
THEN after we already had our 4Girlz, Ouchies contacted me and told me that their Olivia band-aids have premiered and they were sending us those to review too.

Makenna freaked out when we received them and all of a sudden she needed a band-aid 24/7! She is obsessed with anything and everything Olivia right now so it's awesome that Ouchies came out with these for their Ouchies Jr. line.

I love that the band-aids come in a tin rather then a paper box because even though they are just band-aids I hate having a smashed looking box in our medicine cabinet. Once we were low in the 4Girlz styles I put the rest in the Olivia tin and now Makenna uses the 4Girlz tin to play with so yay for recycling.

Like I said band-aids are a must in any household that has a child in it but why go with the regular BORING beige band-aids when your child can wear a band-aid and still look cool!

[[GO BUY IT:]]
You can purchase any of the Ouchies band-aids for only $5.00!

Our crazy busy summer.... & LIFE.

By Jennifer (Double Duty Mommy) at 8:03 PM 4 commented
So I've been slacking on lots of stuff recently. I have so many reviews & giveaways that should have been done already (sorry to all the co's out there) but we've been so busy.

Summer has just started but we've been doing lots. Nothing major but we're just hardly home, and when I am here I'm too tired to write a blog or type up a review.

Our days have been filled with trips to the mall, trips to Disney, Sea World, & Aquatica (a waterpark made by Sea World), movies, lunches, and just really spending 24/7 together as a family.
We are really trying to give as much to Makenna as we can right now because in such a short amount of time her baby sister will be here and we do not want her to forget how much we love her.

Speaking of Kendall, scariness happened last Sunday. On Friday the 18th - mid afternoon John noticed that only my right leg/foot was huge and swollen. After resting for a couple days we decided to call my doctor on Sunday. She told us to go to the hospital to get an ultra sound and some tests done. My BP came back being 111/55 so no preeclampsia, & the ultra sounds came back perfectly clear so no clots. It was just "normal" pregnancy swelling. I was told to just try to stay off my feet 70% of the day and keep my legs elevated. I'm just thankful the swelling didn't happen till 34 weeks cause I know some women have it happen sooner and have to live with it for a long time.
Also, I was checked and we found out I was 40% effaced, -2 station and almost 1 cm dilated. I'm pretty freaked out because with Makenna - @ 40 weeks I was 0 everything then @ 41 weeks I was 4-5cm dilated and within hours my daughter was here. We were told that because I've already had a baby that's typical to already be thinning out so soon but I'm not ok with that answer and I've been on pins & needles for the past week.
Tomorrow I am 35 weeks & we have an appointment (original appt. was LAST Tuesday but John & I had to reschedule then on Friday my doctor had an emergency with another patient so we had to reschedule AGAIN) & even though I didn't want to be checked until I was in labor, I dont care anymore. I'm going to ask to be checked just so I can have some peace of mind and be at ease a little more. Hopefully I'm still the same and I wont have to think every waking moment that I'm progressing more and more.

REMINDER:: I have lots of giveaways and reviews up right now! You know you wanna win some awesome stuff, and if you dont need it then win it for a friend!! My "Showering Mommy & Baby Event" isn't over yet... & won't be till September so keep coming back, keep entering and keep winning!!

And remember, if DDM gets 300 "Likes" on Facebook by the end of the week I'll give everyone TEN extra entries into your choice giveaway.

Also, please vote daily on TBB and TMB! :)

"Showering Mommy & Baby" Giveaway Event! - Shower Hug Review & Giveaway

By Jennifer (Double Duty Mommy) at 6:54 PM 219 commented

**CLOSED**

Winner: Random.org #136 - April G
--Winner has been emailed. She has 48hrs to respond before a new winner is chosen--
A HUGE Thank You to Shower Hug & to all of you wonderful readers who entered! :)

---------------------

If you're a breastfeeding mama who lives on Twitter then on Thursday at 10pm you are on #bfcafe! If you don't know about #bfcafe then let me fill you in.
#bfcafe is a Twitter party that breastfeeding moms, & moms to be participate in to discuss all things breastfeeding. What's a party without party favors, right? So through-out the party there are questions asked and winner's chosen.
A few weeks ago Shower Hug sponsored the #bfcafe party and I happened to be one of the winners!

The Shower Hug is essential for breast pain relief during pregnancy & breastfeeding.
Specially designed for expectant and new moms to wear when they shower, the Shower Hug provides gentle bust line support as well as soothes sensitive nipples and breasts caused by pregnancy and breastfeeding.

For use in the shower, the Shower Hug:
  •  Provides gentle bust-line support for full and engorged breasts
  •  Acts as a warm compress to soothe tender breasts and ease engorgement, mastitis and plugged milk ducts.
  •  Shields sensitive nipples and breasts from direct contact with harsh, stinging shower sprays
  •  Protects nipples and areolas from direct contact with soap and other chemical residues found in many toiletries.
I am 34 weeks preggo now and to my surprise I already needed to use the Shower Hug the other night in the shower for the 1st time. I was sent the S/M size and I honestly thought the Shower Hug would not work with me. I'm large chested so I thought without a doubt once absorbed with water it'd become too heavy and fall.
The S/M actually fit me (I'm 34 F... that's without my milk & engorgement of course) AND it stayed up.

The only issue I had is that it was pretty hard to put on by myself. The velcro like seal is extremely sensitive so the slightest touch it sticks together... which sounds like a good thing (& dont get me wrong.. it is) but when I'm trying to secure the girls in tightly it became a little annoying that before I was ready the two parts would touch and seal together. Then I'd try to just unseal a little bit but then all would come undone. If that even makes sense... lol. Sorry.
Anyways, besides that it was great once I got help from the hubby.

The Shower Hug is proudly made in the USA of the most luxurious, double-sided knit terry velour. This dye-free super soft fabric is ideally suited for use on sensitive breasts of pregnant, new and nursing Moms. The bandeau top wraps around your chest and is secured with a 4” wide band of ultra-low profile Velcro to accommodate changes in your bust-line over the course of pregnancy and breastfeeding.

I was surprised how much water it was able to hold that once the time comes that I know I will leak during the night I'll be wearing my Shower Hug instead of just breast pads.

I let my Shower Hug hang to dry a bit then before bed I put it back on and only wear it to bed. It's wasn't filled with water anymore but it was cold and felt so soothing and kept me nice and covered at night instead of a tank top (that I normally wear to bed) which makes me extremely hot while I sleep lately.

Another thing that I personally don't agree with is that under the Benefits section of the Shower Hug site it says you can wear it instead of a nursing bra or sports bra. I've worn it around the house under my shirts but I would never wear it outside the house. You can see the shape of the wrap and velcro seal is even more noticable.
The Shower Hug comes in three different sizes and custom sizing is available upon request. Belmama wash cloths and burp cloths are also available in coordinating fabrics and colors. In addition, Belmama offers Earth Friendly Shower Hugs, wash cloths and burp cloths made of 80% organic cotton and 20% Ecospun® for green mamas.

Additionally, the Shower Hug can also be used by mamas recovering from a C-section! Once wraped aruond your hips and abdominal area the Shower Hug will gently and softly support your tummy in & out of the shower, plus protect your incision from the shower sprays and soaps that can irritate your sensitive and healing skin!

::MY CONCLUSION::
I absolutely love the Shower Hug for the purpose it's made for. Despite my few issues with putting it on it definitely stayed in place while in the shower and it provided excellent comfort at night (while also staying in place the whole night!). I agree that it'd be great to wear during the night to prevent leaking all over the place as well. I wouldn't wear it out in public but maybe for someone else it isn't so noticable under a shirt.

[[GO BUY IT:]]

"Showering Mommy & Baby" Giveaway Event! - Peek-A-Boo Review

By Jennifer (Double Duty Mommy) at 4:15 PM 0 commented

Peek-a-boo is a maternity and nursing collection that allows nursing mothers to wear stylish clothing & then breastfeed without exposing herself, while keeping mother-baby eye contact!

Every item in the collection is meant for your growing maternity needs & then continued use postpartum while nursing.
Each of their tops have side stitching that is great at concealing that tummy we all try to hide after our precious baby is here with us. During pregnancy the stitching is great for hugging your growing tummy. I LOVE this feature because I hate wearing shirts and tops that just hang down from my tummy.. it makes me feel like a frumpy preggo.

Also, each piece is adorned with a cute little duck which is situated on the inside of the garment. It is only revealed when breastfeeding, giving baby something to look at and it can help mama remember that she nursed on the ducky side last time (or the non duck side).
Noa kindly sent me the Cap Sleeve in green to review. It's the perfect thin & light material for these hot summer months.
I had an issue with washing it, where it did not come out of the washer feeling as thin & light as it did previously. Even once dry it was heavy and a course feeling.
I emailed Noa about this issue and after not discovering why this issue happened she quickly sent me another Cap Sleeve (but in blue this time). The blue washed and dried perfectly and I've never had a problem with it, at all.
As you can see, when not lifting it just looks like any other top and you can walk around in confidence that everyone is unaware that it's a nursing top!
Like I said, I love that it has the stitching on the side that hugs my big baby belly and will hide that little tummy once my little Kendall decides to come into this world. Nursing in public will be very simple by simply lifting the cut section up just enough to latch & I wont have to worry about being exposed to the whole world.

"Showering Mommy & Baby" Giveaway Event! - VTech V.Reader Review & Giveaway

By Jennifer (Double Duty Mommy) at 12:51 PM 943 commented

**CLOSED**

Winner: Random.org #911 - Mommalovesme
--Winner has been emailed. She has 48hrs to respond before a new winner is chosen--
A Thank You to VTech Toys & to all of you wonderful readers who entered! :)

---------------------

When I was approached by Jolyn to have Makenna review the *NEW* V.Reader by VTech I instantly jumped at the opportunity.
The new V.Reader was exclusively released at Target stores everywhere on June 21st but is not available nationwide until August. With that being said, Makenna is one of the first kids to have a look at this great new product that is being compared to the Kindle.

The V.Reader is for kids 3-7 years old. It helps them learn the necessary building blocks to grow into a fluent reader. V.Reader teaches reading comprehension, vocabulary, phonics and word building, along with a story dictionary that describes word definitions in a manner that’s easy for them to comprehend.

Each learning cartridge gives your little reader two options - listen and follow along to the story as read by animated characters; or touch the screen and play reading games to learn each word or sentence.
The V.Reader comes in two colors - Blue & Orange, and Pink w/ flowers! Makenna was of course sent the girly pink V.Reader. The V.Reader comes with "What's That Noise" learning cartridge but Makenna was also sent "Olivia Takes Ballet"!
It was easy for Makenna to pick up the concept because just like her DSi the V.Reader comes with a pen to make it easier to use the touch screen.
The home screen is customizable with the choice of an avatar picture, the child's name and a welcome message.
The stories really come to life through vivid animation, narration, character voices, graphics, sounds and music. Young children engage with stories by watching, reading and learning. Children can follow their favorite character’s voice, play reading games and use the story dictionary.
Through out the story, certain words are highlighted and when touched on the word is explained in definition, which makes life easier since Makenna does ask "what does that mean..?" a lot.

VTech has a download library with more than 100 additional stories. I have both a Windows laptop and a Mac computer so I love that V.Reader is compatible with a PC or Mac computer.
Right now the learning cartridge choices are "Toy Story 3", "Shrek 4", "Scooby Doo", "Olivia", "Little Engine", "Dora The Explorer", "Mickey Mouse Club House" and "Mr. Men & Little Miss"! I'm not positive but I'm sure more cartridge games will be coming out as the release date comes closer.

[[GO BUY IT:]]
You can purchase the V.Reader via Target or nationwide August 2010
for $59.99 plus $19.99 for most learning cartridge games.

[[YOU CAN WIN IT!:]]

I'm always looking for fun & new ways to decorate our house and putting paintings, pictures and stuff like that can get a bit... blah to me.
I came across RoomMates Peel & Stick Decor & found TONS of stuff that I love.

Before I tell you what I got to review let me tell you a bit about RoomMates! Call them whatever you want; wall stickers, wall decor, wall appliques... call them whatever you want but make sure you include that they are amazing! RoomMates are removable, repositionable, and reusable wall decals, peel and stick borders, murals, laptop skins, and more!
Yes, RoomMates can be reused over and over again, no matter how many times they’re applied to a surface. Believe me... this came in VERY handy because I am extremely indecisive at times and I did move the decal a few times till I found it a permanent home.

I love the idea of peel & stick decor because of course that means no nails, staples or tack holes all over my wall. So when I step back and the decal is sooo crooked it's not even funny (yes, it happened) I can move it with peace of mind that my wall is still perfect and there isn't a hole in my wall hiding under the decal.

I was sent the "Chalkboard & Dry Erase Board". I originally had a standard board in our kitchen, which was very handy but like I mentioned before I had to reposition it a lot so I have holes all over. John & I have run into it a couple times and of course it falls and sometimes the writing gets rubbed off, etc. It was so annoying but we kept using it.

Once I received this from RoomMates I gladly took down the regular board and put this up. It was longer then I thought but that's just another plus. We both love this decal! It's so practical and of course it's different so all our friends talk about it when they come over. Our kitchen becomes the place to go right away and our notes instantly get erased so everyone can play around and write funny notes.
