Britax - Boulevard 70 Review & Giveaway

By Jennifer (Double Duty Mommy) at 9:54 AM

Britax (pronounced: Bri-Tex) is the leading brand when it comes to convertible car seat safety. Britax knows this so they recently redesigned their car seats to make them even safer for you and your family.

In the United States during 2005 over 1,300 children ages 14 years and younger died as occupants in motor vehicle crashes! Approximately 184,000 were injured in crashes. That’s an average of 4 deaths and 504 injuries each day.
You can read more on the CDC Child Passenger Safety: Fact Sheet website.

Of course as a parent car safety is always a huge concern and a top priority. Looking for the perfect car seat is an endless battle of reviews, facts, maybe even mom blog sites. In the end Britax is always ranked highest in safety and it cannot be beat.

As I previously mentioned although they are already number one in motor safety for more then 70 years, well they have now stepped it up further by completely redesigned their whole line of convertible car seats to make them even more safer - focusing on head safety as number one.

When it comes to testing for car safety, Britax does twice as many test as required! <-- that makes this mama very happy to hear.

First let me tell you some things I instantly noticed about the Boulevard 70. It was really heavy. That may sound like a negative thing but I like the fact that it's heavy. To me that means it's safer then a regular plastic car seat.

The new generation of Britax convertible car seats come with integrated steel bars surrounding the car seat. These bars strengthen the connection to the vehicle & will reduce the forward flexing in a car crash.

Next thing I noticed was the huge base that has an anti-slip rubber surface on it. I've learned that besides helping to keep the car seat in place on our leather seats it also helps to protect all car interiors from getting those horrible car seat indentation marks.

How many times have you tried to put your child in their seat and they end up sitting on top of their shoulder straps because they keep falling into the chair? No matter how I try to put them on the side of the seat, Kendall always ends up sitting on a buckle and strap. I don't know about you but that doesn't sound too comfortable.
That's a thing of the past because Britax has put in harness strap holders for easy in and out boarding!

Compared to other car seats on the market Britax has lowered the center of gravity in their car seats. This means the child sits lower therefore creating stability in the event of a crash.
Along with the lower center of gravity Britax has put in what they call "Safe Cell Technology". In a crash the cells compress, further lowering the center of gravity and counter acting the forward rotation of the seat.
This is the reason why normal car seat will normally propel towards the front of the car!! SCARY! So the Safe Cell Technology is a definite plus.

Not all car crashes are from the rear though so Britax as put Side Impact Protection in every convertible car seat, making sure it's lined with Energy-Absorbing EPP foam. On the Boulevard 70 there is also extra protection on either side of the head which keeps the child "in true" or aligned with the seat.

The Boulevard 70 can be placed rear facing for your new 5 pound bundle of joy up to 40 pounds. The seat reclines for comfort and increased safety.
Once your child is 1 year old and at least 20 pounds they can be placed forward facing (although it is now said that a child should be rear facing until 2 years old). The seat can still recline even in the forward facing position. It has an easy to use handle located on the front bottom area of the seat, this makes it very easy to recline the seat with one hand. The Boulevard has a max weight limit of 70 pounds so you can keep your child as safe as possible in this seat for as long as possible.

I have to tell you about another great feature of this seat! You can adjust the shoulder height without disassembling the seat in any way. The top of the seat has a push down bar that you push in on and then pull up. This will adjust upwards for your growing child, and like I said without taking anything apart!

Made in the USA the Boulevard 70 sells for $309.99 and I think it's well worth the high price tag, because of course you can never put a price on your child's safety!
