Leap Frog has done it again, Leapster Explorer is the latest version of the original Leapster & Leapster 2.

NEW FEATURES INCLUDE:

With a library of more than 40 games and activities includes cartridge games, downloadable learning apps (games, e-Books, videos, flash cards and more), a camera/video recorder and more, your child is sure to love this new enhanced handheld.

We were sent the pink & white Explorer & the "Disney Princess - Pop Up Story Adventures" cartridge game. Only for the Leapster Explorer the Disney Princess game comes with 7 mini-games that teach music and early reading. I love that it teaches letters, phonics skills, story comprehension and musical rhythm and pitch. It is Makenna's first year in Kindergarten so anything that can help her get ahead in her reading we'll try out.
Also, we soon found out it came pre-loaded with one of Makenna's favorite games which is sorta like the regular Leapster "Pet Pals" game.

What I love about the new Leapster Explorer is that it's thinner then the Leapster 2 that Makenna owns. The screen is a bit bigger as well so games and videos are seen a lot more clearly.

CONS:
Battery life doesn't last long AT ALL. We tried buying expensive batteries that are supposed to last a longer period of time but it didn't really make a difference. Browsing around I saw that Leap Frog now sells a recharging port for the Explorer so after purchasing that (our own money... it wasn't sent to us) it's made life (and our wallets) a lot better. No more ridiculous battery purchases after just a few Leapster Explorer uses.
