Adoption

By Jennifer (Double Duty Mommy) at 2:28 PM
So I'm SUPER excited and beyond words happy today.
We started the adoption process today for my husband to adopt Makenna. I've mentioned it a little bit on my "Meet Makenna" page, but John, my husband, is not Makenna's biological father.

Makenna's biological father wasn't involved in her life at all until 2007 when she went for a visit to Colorado to see him.

But now that John and I are married and have been for over a year now we just think it's right. We've always talked about it and John has always been passionate about Makenna having his last name. So we printed out everything and started the whole process today. Hopefully it won't be a horrible experience and it'll be fast and uneventful. I really don't want to be going to court every month dealing with crap and fighting over this and that.

I've had someone tell me in the past, "at least all my kids with have the same daddy" and of course it annoyed me but psh, I never let that crap get to me. I'm definitely not the first and only woman that has kids from separate fathers. I'm in no way shape or form a "whore". Makenna's biological father was my boyfriend at the time, we didn't mean to get pregnant... but it happened and I will NEVER regret it or the decisions I made to keep the pregnancy going. My daughter is the most beautiful little girl in the world because she is part me.
This same person has even said she wishes I have problems with this pregnancy and miscarry ! What a horrible, low, despicable person, right?

John is her dad and Makenna needs his last name.
Let me clarify though, Makenna DOES NOT have her biological father's last name, she has my maiden name as her last name. I didn't even put his ass on her birth certificate!

Today, Monday, is a happy day and I'm going to be living in his bliss for a while. Again, I really just hope by the end of the year Makenna can officially be a Mercurio.

As I think you already know, both my girls are from a previous relationship. I was with, & later married to, their bio dad since I was 14. Makenna was VERY planned & took 22 months to conceive her. When she was 3 months, we split up due to me realizing he was not worthy of her, nor myself. Sadly, it took me growing up & becomming a mother to see that.

One day, during a visit with her bio dad, post our divorce, him & I ended up "hooking up" & there was Maddie. Who knew after trying 22 months for Makenna, 1 TINY oops would result in Maddie. I went through my entire pregnancy alone AND with a toddler, with only the help of my parents.

When Maddie was 3 months old, my long time good friend & I made it official & started dating. From day 1 HE was daddy. We never even questioned the piece of paper involved, however, I wanted it. My ex owed me $15k in back child support & after trying numerous times to shove these girls in his face, I was finished.

I went to a lawyer. 7 months & $3000 later, my ex's rights were terminated in February 2009 & Makenna & Maddox because official Wahrer's May 2009. I can not describe to you the amazing feeling of adoption day, but I dont have to, because you'll be experiencing it yourself very soon!! Im so very happy for you & if you need any advice or to vent, you know where to find me xxoo

Oh my goodness boo, I am so very happy for you, Makenna, John, and little Kendall. You all are the perfect family and deserve nothing but the best! I've had people say the same exact line to me--well atleast all your kids have the same daddy. I think it's so gay. I could care less if they came from the same dude or 3 different ones. They are my beautiful babies that I would not trade for the world!

Sending all my love and happiness to you in this amazing process of adoption! <3

That is so completely awesome. :) I hope that it goes quickly too. My kids don't have the same dad and my oldest's father has never seen her and unfortunately, never wants to... I can relate.

Aww good for you guys :). Is she in school yet? If not, hopefully you can get her name changed before she goes to school and learns her current last name and then has to learn to change it.

My little sister is biologically my niece, but my mom & step dad adopted her because my step brother (her bio father) is a child molester, and left her bio mother when she was six months old, to move 4 states away to live with his mommy). Then like six months after that her bio-mom had CPS called on her and the kids were taken away due to severe neglect and then after 2.5 years of doing NOTHING the court asked her to (never got a job, never found a secure place to stay, never took her bipolar meds, never started therapy, never got the baby her own bed, etc), they FINALLY forced her to sign away her rights, adn then the adoption process started.

It was a really long, ugly battle for my parents but they finally did get it finalized so I hope everything goes a million times better for you than it did for them.
