It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas

By Jennifer (Double Duty Mommy) at 3:24 PM 1 commented
Christmas usually starts pretty early in this house and this year was no exception. I've been waiting weeks and weeks to put up our tree and as soon as we were done eating on Thanksgiving the tree went up.
I've been a bit busy though so last night is finally when the decorations went up. Our theme this year is Santa. Lots of reds, golds and lots of Santas. One problem though, all the ornaments are glass... yeah we didn't think that one through obviously, lol. Thankfully Kendall isn't crawling yet.

This year being Kendall's first Christmas of course we got her her own ornament! I'm not really sure what to get a 5 month old for Christmas. It is really THAT necessary to wait because really, she's not going to be opening anything or even have any idea what's going on. I think we might as well buy whatever we need and just let her play with the toys now but DH wants to wait.
We also got Makenna an ornament to match the tree theme. It's a Princess glass slipper since she's in love with everything Disney Princess. No, it's not a Santa theme but the colors match the tree. Also, Saydie has a new ornament that says "Good Dog!"

I even made our wreath pretty this year. I've normally had a store bought one that's already prettied up but this year I bought a plain one. Added little present things and I added the ribbon around it and made the bow in the middle. Yep, I didn't really think I could do it but I made that bow all by myself!!

Saydie even has a new collar to get her in the Christmas mood. Of course we can't leave her out of the Christmas spirit. Thankfully she hasn't even tried to bite at it, which DH was afraid of her doing. I'm pretty sad she's not smaller though because you better believe I'd be dressing her up! Maybe I'll get a small dog this year for Christmas so I can dress it up all the time. **HINT HINT, DH... HINT, HINT** :)

Although the living room is done I still need to decorate the rest of the house. I was watching HGTV yesterday and got some really good ideas on Christmas decorating so I'm hoping I can put some of those idea in our house. I never thought of it but they said to fill your entire house with the Christmas spirit, not just the living room (like we're guilty of doing). Put added touches into even the bathrooms and little areas you wouldn't normally think about. Add [insert your theme color here] ribbon/string around a bar of soap or of course put different towels on the bar. Maybe for the guest bedroom put a wreath above the bed with a little mint on their pillow so they feel warm and welcome. Of course they said Christmas doesn't have to be just reds and green everywhere either. The holidays can be about your favorite colors so you can do classic white with teal blues. Seeing as our theme is red and Santa of course we're going to be doing everything in red, white and golds this year.

And now.... our tree!!

Do you have any decorating tips and tricks you do year after year? I'd love to hear where you decorate in your house. Do you change themes every year like we try to do, what's your theme this year?

DDM HGG - Sugar Sweet Baby Doll Sling Review and Giveaway

By Jennifer (Double Duty Mommy) at 2:50 PM 78 commented
Babywearing has become a new love of mine. I didn't do it with Makenna, I tried, it failed. I now know that I just had the wrong kind of sling.
I have countless wraps for Kendall but my favorite BY FAR is my Sugar Sweet Baby wrap. If you wear your baby you have had to hear about these wraps... and if not then you're definitely missing out!
I bought a few months ago and we barely take it off. Some nights you could probably even find me sleeping in it (just kidding... maybe! lol).

Lara is a work at home mom of a 5 year old boy and 2 year old little girl, she is also expecting baby #3 in February 2011.
She makes the softest wraps to wear your baby in. What makes her wraps so special? Well she uses a blend of 70% Bamboo & 30% Cotton. Lara uses the Bamboo blend because it is much softer, stronger and lighter then the 100% Organic Cotton.

Unfortunatly I'm not really here to talk about her regular baby wraps... 'cause I could go on for forever about them.

One thing I always hear from Makenna is how she wants to take care of Sister with me. She holds her babys around the house all the time, changing them when I have to change Kendall's diaper, putting them in their little car seat when Kendall is in her's, etc. The one thing Makenna hasn't been able to do is wear her dolls... untill now!

Lara has introduced a whole new line of doll slings. What I think is the perfect holiday gift for any little girl who loves her dolls.
Just like the normal wraps for adults, the dolls slings are made with the Bamboo/Organic Cotton mix (unless noted.

Lara sent us the pink zebra sling for Makenna to review. It was perfect timing too because her 6th birthday was just days away!
She opened her present and once I explained to her what it was she blurted out, "yay, now I'm like you Mommy!" I think she's pretty much worned her babies around every day since the her birthday (November 19th).
I feel crazy for saying this but it was actually a little hard to figure out when I tried to put it around Makenna. It took me a few tries but now we can wrap Makenna and her dolls up in just moments. It's extremely easy to take off, the child can simply pull the wrap above her head. To get the perfect fit or adjust the sling you simply pull some shoulder material down and over the other material (pictured below)

A huge plus, there is no wrong way to sling the doll! Your child can wear them Hip style, forward facing, "newborn", or facing in. We've pretty much tried all of the ways but according to Makenna her babys love the facing out position so they can look around. :)

Lara's slings are on sale from $15-$18! A GREAT price for this adorable holiday gift!

One DDM reader will win a doll sling in the pattern of their choice!

DDM HGG -- Summer Infant Sleek&Secure Video Monitor Review & Giveaway

By Jennifer (Double Duty Mommy) at 10:51 AM 580 commented
Being a brand new mom again it's brought back all those old fears I used to feel when Makenna was a baby.
Fears of if they are sleeping ok, is she crying and I can't hear her, and of course there's always the fear of SIDS.
I never have to worry anymore thanks to Summer Infant and their new Sleek&Secure Video Monitor

The future of baby monitors has arrived.
When I was pregnant, I definitely wanted to get a new monitor but I couldn't justify spending all that money when the monitor I had when Makenna was a baby still worked. I still wasn't happy though, of course I wanted to SEE Kendall and the old monitor just picked up noises... and not very clearly I may add.
Summer Infant Sleek&Secure Monitor definitely changes everything you thought you knew about baby monitors.
This cute monitor has been designed to look and feel like a cell phone. It's so funny because when John came home and saw the monitor charging on the counter he even asked me, "You bought a new cell phone!!!" lol.
This video baby monitor is equipped with a 2.5" color LCD screen also automatically changes to black & white for night vision. You can also adjust the brightness on the screen depending on your preferences. It also has 100% digital technology so you get a secure and private connection at all times even up to 350' away!
The base has a swivel base and tilt camera so you can adjust it so you can have eyes on baby at all times while the screen has a flip stand and a belt loop on it.
Although I want to see Kendall at all times I never really wanted a video monitor because I was sure the picture would be so fuzzy and I would think, "what's the point!". Well not with this monitor! The color LCD monitor provides a perfectly clear picture and it also features a talk back button so I can even simply push a button and try to calm Kendall down before I get to the room when she's crying!

But of course I have to tell you about my favorite feature that makes me feel sorta like the FBI. It's not enough that this monitor provides everything I've already told you but also you can monitor up to 4 rooms at a time! You can purchase 3 additional cameras (sold individually) and each picture can show up on the same handheld monitor. You have the option to see all 4 screens at once or you can set it to scan all the rooms every 8 seconds! This feature has come in very handy when I see Makenna sleeping playing with her animals at bed time. I simply press the talk button and besides freaking her out because she forgets I can see her, she then goes to sleep.

Some other great features (again, as if there are not enough!) is you can turn off the video screen by a push of a button or it has a auto time out so it doesn't use the 10 hour rechargeable battery.

I like the room to be completely dark when I'm sleeping. So if you're like me this will come in very handy when it's bed time.

RECAP:
•2.5" color LCD screen with automatic black & white night vision.
•100% digital technology provides a secure and private connection up to a range of 350'
•4-way split screen allows you to view up to 4 rooms at a time (additional camera purchases required) OR scan between each room every 8 seconds
•Talk-back feature that allows parents to talk to baby while in the nursery
•Belt clip
•Flip stand
•10-hour rechargeable battery
•Auto time-out feature
•LED sound lights and one-touch video on/off button for nighttime convenience

The Sleek&Secure sells for $179.99 at Target, Walmart and other select stores.
You can also purchase extra cameras for $79.99
One lucky DDM reader will win (what I like to call) a mom's best friend... Sleek&Secure Monitor!

DDM HGG -- 4Moms Clearwater Infant Tub Review & giveaway

By Jennifer (Double Duty Mommy) at 3:38 PM 307 commented
**CLOSED**
4Moms is a small company with big ideas. They are dedicated to finding innovative ideas to make our lives as parents just that much more easier.
So what's up with the name? Well 4Moms is actually a group 5 moms from Mt. Lebanon, PA with 15 kids between them! "4Moms" sounded better as a name though so 1 adopted the name 'Stealth Mom' lol.

With 15 kids they really know their stuff, but they didn't just want to make good baby gear/products... they wanted to make GREAT products to make out every day tasks easier. You know when you buy a baby product you might say, "wow, I wish this product did that”? Well 4Moms tries to think of even the smallest details and hopefully you'll never have to say that phrase when using their baby products.

As a part of their 4Moms Insiders I received the Clearwater Infant Tub to review.
When you open the box, it's completely ready for use, this in my eyes is a good and bad thing. Great because I dont have to go out of my way to put something together but also, it makes it bad because it's extremely bulky.
It literally lives in the bathtub because it's so big, so I kinda wish it could be made a tad smaller just for storage purposes.

Just look at the picture... you can pretty much see the front and back of the regular bathtub compared to how big the Clearwater tub is...
The tub also comes with a rinse cup that can be placed on either side of the tub in the cupholders for easy convinence when it's time for rinsing and a base piece that can help out if it doesn't fit quite right in your sink.

The tub also requires 3 AAA batteries which are not included. So why does a bath tub need batteries you ask?
Well that's because it has a built in digital thermometer!

Simply push the on ON/OFF button on the tub that's located right below the digital screen and the thermometer comes on.

Once the flow of water hits the sensor the temp will start climbing. Blue indicates that the water is too cold, green shows it's just right and red of course means the water is too hot for baby.
Seeing that this takes batteries I was a little hesitant to place this directly into the bathroom bathtub but directions clearly state it doesn't have to be placed in a sink. So far, we've been good and the batteries pack seems to stay pretty dry.

The water pours into a clean water reservoir. It has a plug at the bottom for drainage. When the water reaches the top the thermometer will start. Once you have the perfect tempurature it's time for the bath!
In the side of the tub that baby lies in there is a small slit for the water to drain from allowing the level of water to never come up over the sides while the new warm and clean water trickles in. There are also two drains on this side of the tub. One on the side and one right on the bottom, so even your newborn baby can use this tub! I think it's so cute that the tub also has little feet inprinted on it to indiate where babies feet should actually be touching.
This tub is absolutely genius and the 4 (well 5) moms put it perfectly... If you spent a day in diapers you'd want this tub too. Clean water. Clean Baby. Perfect!

--4Moms love a Bath Luv and you can make bath time will be complete by winning one right here on DDM! Head over and check out my review for the Bath Luve (the pink fish Kendall is covered up with in the above picture) and win one of your very own!

You can purchase the Clearwater tub at select retails stores & Babies-R-Us!
