capturing moments

By Jennifer (Double Duty Mommy) at 5:37 PM 1 commented
As a mom I want to remember every moment of my daughter's lives. It's so hard though and I don't think I will ever own enough batteries to keep up with the amount of hours I have my camera on them.
I have been in the market for some great video screen capture software so I can make my amazing videos of them even better.
The other day we were out and Kendall was laughing so hard. Isn't that music to ever parent's ears? I wish I could have a screen capture of that perfect smile for all to see.

M is the most amazing, loving, caring, and helpful big sister and it's so great to see them interact.
At first I thought the 6 year age difference was going to be really hard but I have come to love the space between the two. I get so much help from M and K just adores the heck of out her.

We are planning to have #3 pretty soon and I only hope we will then have 3 perfect children who get along as famously as my two daughters do.

So for now I will just continue looking for the perfect software to help me create long lasting memories of my kids.

new dannon oikos greek yogurt review - #cleveroikos #cleveryogurt

By Jennifer (Double Duty Mommy) at 9:20 AM 1 commented

I wrote this post while participating in a blog tour conducted by Clever Girls on behalf of Dannon. I have been compensated for my time commitment to the program but my opinions are my own.

For more information and recipe ideas, visit http://www.oikosyogurt.com/ or www.Facebook.com/oikos. I was selected for this sponsorship by the Clever Girls Collective, which endorses Blog With Integrity, as I do.

I've blogged about snacking smart before and now that I'm on Nutrisystem it's even more important to be smart with my food choices.
For me it's so hard to find yummy snack foods that are actually good for me. Recently we purchased a ton of yogurt because my husband likes taking it to work with him. Now I can't say I love yogurt but once in a while it's good. But I'm also not adventurious so I don't go out and try every brand and option there is out there.

As a part of this campaign for Dannon we were sent out to purchase the new Oikos Greek Yogurt and I must say, I was pretty nervious. How am I suppose to talk about something I know I'm going to dislike? Well boy was I wrong!
I love this yogurt. L.O.V.E. It's so thick and creamy, reminds me of how thick sour cream is and it has the perfect amount of sweetness (one of my huge problems is that yogurt tastes so sour)! I love their flavor varieties and they even have fruit on the bottom! I love crunch so I added some granola so it was like a parfait but way better then you can get at fast food joint.

The yogurt is so thick it odesn't even fall off the spoon. And notice that the yogurt in the cup doesn't look all watery? Perfect yum!

My husband still loves his regular brand but he said he wouldn't mind if I purchase this yogurt again. M didn't like the it but K was loving it. She loves yogurt so we aren't surprised.
I can definitely buy more of these for John's lunches so he can get a filling healthy snack while at work.

Dannon Oikos is created through an authentic Greek straining process which gives it a rich and creamy-thick texture. There are many varieties you can find at your local grocery store starting with the Dannon Oikos Plain and Fruit on the Bottom. Both contains 0% fat, while the Dannon® Oikos traditional blended varieties contains about 3% fat. Both are an excellent source of protein, twice that of most regular lowfat yogurts.

Dannon Oikos 0% varieties contain active yogurt cultures and range from 80 calories (Plain) to 130 calories (Fruit on the Bottom) per 5.3 oz. cup. Dannon Oikos 0% Fat Berry Flavors beat Chobani 2-1 in a taste teste.

Right now you can head over to the Dannon Oikos Facebook page because they are offering a coupon for a free cup! www.facebook.com/oikos.

I have partnered with Dannon to help promote the Dannon Oikos Greek Yogurt Series. I have been compensated for my time commitment to the program, which includes writing about the promotion and product. However, my opinions are entirely my own and I have not been paid to publish positive comments.

whats for dinner? marie callender's frozen lasagna review

By Jennifer (Double Duty Mommy) at 12:43 PM 4 commented
Cooking for my family is in this crazy in between stage. Now M, the hubby and I we're ok, sure M is kinda picky but for the most part I think I have a pretty good eater. Now only if she would not take 5 hours to eat one meal that'd be great.

No the problem is K. She eats almost anything we do but she can be pretty picky. Loves veggies and fruit but of course we can't only give her those.

Her Italian roots are strong because Italian food is one thing she lives for (I'm assuming so she she makes the loudest "yumm" sounds while eating). To make true Italian food it takes a long time and I just don't have that kind of time. Letting "gravy" (or meat sauce to normal people, lol.) simmer for 8 hours? Uh yeah no thanks.

I tried the frozen meal thing a while back but M and I hated it and John wouldn't even try it.
The other day I was having a bad day and I just did not want to cook so I gave in and bought a frozen meal. This time I went with Marie Callender's new frozen 3 Italian meat and four cheese Lasagna since on the box it said that it's the preferred lasagna over the "other guys". Plus with their Love Ir or Get Your Money Back Guarantee I knew (well hoping) I couldn't go wrong.

This new lasagna is not like any other frozen meal we've ever tried! Marie Callender's has paired three Italian-style meats (sausage, ground beef and pepperoni) with four different cheeses (Ricotta, Mozzarella, Parmesan and Romano), in a hearty marinara sauce that cooks in the microwave and is ready to serve in just 19 minutes, faster than the competition. I chose the oven setting which takes a whole lot longer (almost a hour and half) so it was crisper but I'm sure the out come would have been the same if I cooked it in the microwave as they suggest.

Right out of the oven I loved what I saw.. and smelled! Even John commented how amazing the house smelled and that's saying something from an Italian man.
First off, no burnt edges! I think everyone who has made lasagna has had the burnt edges problem at least once. Marie Callender's has made a unique baking tray that minimizes burnt edges and cold spots so all you see is gorgeous cheese and bubbly sauce.

What happened next went beyond my wildest dreams - my family ate the whole thing, K included! Everyone loved the lasagna and John is asking that we have it again!

By the way, I did see a pig fly while we were eating.

Now I must say mine didn't come out all pretty and perfect like it shows on the box but it tasted wonderful. Perhaps I didn't let it sit long enough after taking it from the oven but we were all starving so no one would wait longer.

I saw other Marie Callender's options in the frozen section so now that we found one that we love I am going to slowly test the waters and try other options for my family. If I can fill their bellies without slaving over a hot stove for hours then I am satisfied.

This is a sponsored post. Marie Callender's and TheMotherhood provided me with coupons and I was compensated for my time. Thoughts are my own and my family's.

sleepless nights

By Jennifer (Double Duty Mommy) at 11:28 AM 4 commented
Remember a few weeks ago how I told you I was looking for a new bed? Well we picked one out and I have convinced John and that we need a new mattress! You do not know how excited I am because I hate sleeping on this cloud like bed. Yep, I love a hard mattress. Not too ridiculously hard of course they John would literally love to sleep on a cloud if he could.

It's so hard to find a mattress we like so we've been doing some matress find shopping ever since we found the new headboard we like. We figure if we're already changing one thing then we might as well get everything taken care of so we are not complaining later. Next to go will be the dresser and how we have our closet organized... or lack there of I should say.

So I love this one website I found since it helps you compare the different types of mattresses (coil, spring, temper material), how to pick a mattress and choose the right brand for you. It's been so helpful.

I think we're getting close to making a decision but definitely going down to the stores and testing out some of the different types and brands will help. I brought up a Sleep Number mattress because then we can both get what we want!

Now? Well now all we have to worry about is getting Kendall to sleep through the night every night, not just once in a while.

christmas already?

By Jennifer (Double Duty Mommy) at 6:16 PM 11 commented
Is it too early to talk about Christmas? I'm not usually the year around shopper but now with two kids I have completely changed the way I think about holiday and birthday shopping. I started my Christmas shopping in February-March this year and started with stocking stuffers just because it's fairly easy to grab small things here and there. I don't like buying a huge ticket item like lets say a My Little Pony dream house because who knows if M is still going to like that come Christmas.

My husband is the hardest to shop for so pretty much as soon as he accidentally says he likes something I go out the next day and get it. He doesn't say that he likes or wants something out loud very often because he "doesn't actually want anything" and "doesn't need anything for Christmas" but really, I think everyone deserves something on Christmas.
I tried asking him for some stocking stuffer ideas but that was a dead end road before I even left the hypothetical driveway if I must say. Since he doesn't "like" things that apparently means he has no advice on what the girls should have either. He is still more of a lets shop last minute type guy I guess so the early bird shopping has been all me this year.

Still thinking about the husband I then began to wonder what are some stocking stuffers for men? A watch, a wallet, gift cards? I would love to put a new video game in there but my husband is so crazy that he has to have all the new video games pre-ordered so he has them the day they come out.

So when should I shop for the more expensive things? It's almost September so I am thinking now would be a good time to start watching commercials more closely, listen to M talking about cool things she wants and all that good stuff.

When do you start Christmas shopping? This being my first year trying the year around Christmas shopping thing I would love to get some ideas on next year.

elmer's glew crew collection project #cbias #bagitforward

By Jennifer (Double Duty Mommy) at 6:28 PM 9 commented
I'm so excited to tell you about another Elmer's project that you can take part in!

Elmer's Glue Crew Recycling Program is a fun, hands-on way to teach about recycling. As a program member, you'll have access to plenty of helpful recycling-related curriculum and fun projects to keep your kids excited about recycling. Students have the chance to win hundreds of prizes but also learn the importance of recycling and why we should do it.

The goal is to collect all the empty glue bottles and glue sticks that kids use through out the year which can be turned in at your local Wal-Mart.

My daughter's class room is taking part in this amazing project so now the question of where to store all the empties. We went to Wal-Mart for some supplies to build our collection box!

got the supplies together... wait, some aren't pictured here, sorry.

oops... not quite the right fit.

almost done!

We made our box with Elmer's No Wrinkle Rubber Cement and Elmer's Bi-Fold Foam Boards. Then decided to cover it with paper. Glued on Elmer's Project Popperz Letters then used Elmer's 3D Washable Paint Pens!

The project only took about half an hour and now the kids will have a pretty box to collect their bottles in!
We delivered the box today and hopefully they can start filling it soon. It's only day 3 of school but we are talking about a 1st grade class so I'm sure the box will be full in no time!

Check out my full project shop on ThisMoment!
For more information how you can be part of the Glew Crew and other Bag It Forward projects check out BagItForward.org & ElmersGlueCrew.com

This project has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Elmer's #BagItForward #collectivebias. I love being apart of the #bagitforward and Glue Crew so all opinions are my own.

luna protein review and giveaway

By Jennifer (Double Duty Mommy) at 9:14 PM 9 commented
Thank you to LUNA Protein for providing me a LUNA Protein sample pack to review. The opinions I've expressed here are solely my own and represent my honest viewpoint.

Before I was a stay at home mom I worked as a retail manager at some huge stores. The last store I was a manager at was GNC (General Nutrition Center). I went into that job not knowing a thing about being healthy and I was the last person to ask about how what supplements to take and eat/drink. What I did get familiar with was all the protein bars we had in the store.

Getting hungry while at work was never a problem because I was surrounded by healthy foods right? Wrong! I think out of the whole 50+ different types/flavors/brands of protein bars we carried I maybe like 2 or 3! Yep, I knew I was not a protein bar type girl. Most were chalky or all I could taste was pure protein. Definitely not how they advertised as being just like a candy bar, that's for sure.

Well now a bar called Luna Protein is on the market and I'm so happy because they have 2 two flavors with now 5 on the shelves! When I'm out running errand I never have time to stop and catch a bite. I need something I can take with me and eat on the go which is why I've always loved the convenience factor or protein bars.

Out of the 5 bars I tried I must say I did not like all of them... but I am not a protein bar lover... I already said that. I did enjoy the Cookie Dough, Mint Chocolate Chip (new), and Chocolate Cherry Almond.  So 3 out of 5 is a good ratio in my book.

The nutritional facts are pretty impressive compared to more bars on the market. The biggie I just have to point out is the incredible 12g of protein! TWELVE!

Serving Size One bar (45 g)
Calories 180
Total Fat 7g
Saturated Fat 3.5g
Cholesterol 5mg
Sodium 105mg
Carbs 21g
Fiber 3g
Sugar 15g
Protein 12g
Potassium 125mg
Calcium 25% RDI
Iron 15% RDI
Vitamin D 15% RDI

The great thing about Luna Protein is they are made for women! This is the first protein bar made just for us with nutrients most women need: iron, folic acid, and calcium!

So while I would never use this bar as a meal replacement I definitely love that it will hold me over in between meals as a great filling snack.

Chocolate Cherry Almond!

Do you want to try these puppies out?!
5 winners will receive a sample pack
(5 full size bars. 1 of each flavor)

getting older

By Jennifer (Double Duty Mommy) at 10:54 AM 1 commented
The past few days I have been just in awe of my girls. How they are learning, growing, becoming smarter, and of course getting older. Then I had the cringing thought that if they are getting older then I am getting older. That I am not happy with and now I think of better ways to take care of myself and my skin. I know I definitely want organic skincare products since I'm trying to protect my face I dont want to lather on chemicals.
Using organic skincare has a lot of other benefits too besides being safe and all natural. The products are biodegradable, it's supporting organic farming, and you're avoiding petrochemical derivatives such as synthetic colors or fragences.

To better my skin I have been trying to moisterize and keep it hydrated. Dry skin brings out your pores more and no ones likes huge visible pores all over their face. It's just been really hard for me because of the hot humid Florida weather makes my already oily face even more oily. Oil = break outs for me.
I did find some organic argan oil which is very rich in Vitamin E. This oil is ideal in protecting skin and hair from premature aging, UV exposure, and other environmental factors, plus it doesn't make me break out! Double plus!!

Other things I am definitely doing lately is trying to stay out of the sun as much. I bring an umbrella every where with me so I can always be shaded from the harsh UV rays.

So my kids get older and so am I. Now I can only take care of myself since I never cared about it when I actually should have. Better late then never, right?

school projects

By Jennifer (Double Duty Mommy) at 3:15 PM 3 commented
Yesterday was Makenna's 1st grade open house. Kinda boring and definitely not what I remember my elementary open houses being like. It literally took us all of 5 minutes to find the classroom and meet her teachers (she was one of the "lucky" students so she ended up in the big classroom with 32 kids so there are two teachers), and find her desk.
One thing Makenna is excited for is that she actually has her own desk! In Kindergarten they sat at tables with 4 kids to a table. Now - well now she's a "big girl" with a real desk that has a cubby area space for books and such!

While talking to one of the teachers I found out they would have some projects through out the year which is nice but that pretty much means me or daddy will be doing these.
She asked me if I have a computer because they will be asking some students to do a multimedia presentation at some point and it would be great if we could participate. Awesome, not even the 1st day of school and I need to figure this out!

Now don't get me wrong I know my way around a computer, html, css, the whole shebang but give me something like Adobe and I'm clueless. I guess I just haven't given myself time to learn it and definitely have a lack of motivation to learn it.

This being said I am definitely going to have to buy some things if we will for sure help out in the classroom. I looked into some productivity software which looks like it can be helpful so I might go with that as well.
My adventure with Adobe will definitely have to have it's own post I'm sure of it.

Makenna's highlight was going to say hi to Mrs. V her Kindergarten teacher and the Miss B. the teacher next door to her. Those two teachers are about the same age (early 20's) so they always scheduled the classrooms to have reading time and other activities with each other. Not judging the new teachers but I am going to miss Mrs. V (never really knew Miss B) a lot. She was really amazing at her job.

My big girl is all ready for 1st grade.. officially the start of my downward spiral into sadness because I'm sure by tomorrow she will be graduating and I'll be an old hag :(( *insert tears here*

maclaren triumph stroller review and giveaway

By Jennifer (Double Duty Mommy) at 11:10 AM 1408 commented

I love me a nice stroller but finding one that has all the qualities you need is hard to come by. Lightweight, transportable, comfortable for baby and easy to carry around.
I was recentl;y sent the Maclaren Triumph and now we take it everywhere.
When making quick trips to store or in the mall where space between clothing racks a huge a big stroller can just get in the way but not the Triumph.
The 11.5 stroller is definitely light weight and since it has a long carry strap it's nice to be able to fold it up and throw it on your back when at Disney getting on and off the trains.

I define the Triumph as an umbrella stroller with style. This is not your regular run of the mill umbrella stroller for sure.
Maclaren has put features that you normally only get with huge buily strollers.
  • 5 point harness
  • Multiple position reclining seat
  • Rain resistant hood
  • Rain cover included
  • One step break system
  • Washable seat
  • Compact fold
The 5 point harness is great with the thick straps. You can adjust the height of the straps so you get the perfect fit depending on your child's height. the only complaint I have is it's really hard to release the buckle. I brought this up to my rep and she said it is like that on purpose so kids can't undo it. Once learning the buckle was made to be hard I have learned to love it.

To release the buckle you have to push the front and back of the circle. I have found that instead of pushing directly in the center focus your attention on either the left or right side. Pressing on the left side (front and back) then on the right (front and back) one at a time tends to work a lot better.
One feature I love is how easy I can maneuver this stroller even with one hand. Even when Makenna (6 1/2 years old) sits in it I barely feel a difference in weight.
Even at almost 7 years old Makenna has plenty of room to relax and lots of headroom

Gotta love my photography skills.

As you can see the hood is round and quite large. Just in case you can also purchase a seperate sun cover that provides extra protection. The hood is water resistant so I love not having to worry about stains on the pretty fabric. The Maclaren Triumph comes with an included rain cover that easily attaches to four bolts sticking out from the side of the hood and on the side of the foot rest.

Like other umbrella strollers there aren't any cup holders for mom, dad or baby but you can purchase a Universal Organizer which has 2 cup holders and a smaller pocket to put your keys and phone in and a larger mesh pocket for toys.
We absolutly love this stroller and highly recommend it if you're looking for a lightweight compact stroller. If you visit theme parks often like we do then Maclaren strollers is a must in your stroller collection.
You can now purchase on Maclaren's Online Store with FREE shipping!!

umi shoes review and giveaway

By Jennifer (Double Duty Mommy) at 9:55 AM 576 commented
My daughter is going into 1st grade next week, such a big girl I know. After all the supply shopping and clothing kids still need shoes, right? And not just any shoes, they need quality shoes that will last hopefully through the school year.
Umi has just recently launched their Fall styles and they are definitely a hit in this house. With Umi shoes you high quality without losing style or comfortablility. With children's shoes all of the above is very necessary.

I let Makenna pick out her shoes and she chose the Cassie ($59), in pink! PINK. Needless to say I have to buy her another pair of shoes because pink can't possibly go with every outfit. These glossy patents are a modern mary jane that have a satiny smooth finish.

Kendall joined the shoe action with these adorable Bluet style Umi shoes ($57). We'e already put this bad boys to the test by letting her play by the water table in them. Time after time of getting splashed on and well soaked the shoes look the same. I love how they added perfect traction from slipping with the rubber sole. To make everyone's life easier when it comes to putting shoes on a toddler (or is that just my toddler that hates shoes?) they have completed the Bluet with an adjustable hook and loop closure.

don't you just love her modely pose.

What I love about Umi is that all the shoes meets strict guidelines for child-safe materials. Umi only uses non-toxic drum-dyed leathers and other environmentally friendly components right down to the recycled packaging the shoes arrive in.

Umi has been hand crafting shoes for babies, boys and girls for years and years and through this they have developed a deep understanding of materials, patterns, footbeds—the building blocks of creating the most comfortable shoes around.

Umi was recognized for their shoes' flexibility and traction – two key attributes to look for when shopping for little ones. Umi shoes are designed to fit children properly, with shoes for every stage of development. They are made of leather insoles and full leather linings, which act like a natural, supportive, and non-restrictive "landing pad."

Infant - Marlane
Did you know that 99% of children are born with perfect feet. However, due to poor fitting shoes and inflexible soles, only 40% of children's feet are considered completely healthy by age 13. That is why flexible soles are absolutely crucial to proper foot development because children's feet must be allowed to move freely.

You can see in the picture to the right the curved shape of the shoe. Umi offers shoes for every stage of life from infant 0-9months, crawler-cruiser 7-13 months and first walker 10-24 month. Each stage is specific to your child's deveoloping little feet. See that green dot in the picture? That indicates which stage shoe category which definitely takes the guess work out of shoe shopping.

charlie banana - goodbye disposables giveaway!

By Jennifer (Double Duty Mommy) at 12:50 PM 476 commented
I first told you about Charlie Banana earlier this year but I know most of you have heard of these great diapers already!
Earlier this year Charlie Banana released a limited edition "Goodbye Disposable Hello Cloth" diaper! This crisp white diaper with bold lettering was an instant hit and I bought one right away. I even changed K into it at the Great Cloth Diaper Change Event!

Today I am giving away TWO "Goodbye Disposable Hello Cloth" diapers!

Let me tell you some of the great features of this diaper though! First off, Charlie Banana is the only diaper my husband will use. He says they are the easiest to use and he just places the reusable insert right on top of the cover instead of using it as a pocket diaper.

The one size feature of this diaper helps you customize the exact size and fit for your ever changing baby. With the elastic leg adjustment (like adjustable pants for a toddler). the elastic ranges from 1-7 with 7 being the largest for an older baby.

The only complaint I have is I don't personally feel they are the trimmest diaper on the market. Here you see she has a fresh clean diaper on but it looks full from the front.

One thing you may notice that is different with Charlie Banana is that the pocket placement is in the front of the diaper instead of the back. Since this feature is in place you don't get any mess on your hands while unstuffing.

When you have the settings right with the elastic you get a perfect fit around the legs!

Charlie Banana is on the affordable side ranging from $18-$22 or you can buy a 6 pack which will save you a few dollars along the way at only $110.
So want one?!
