a guide to kids' beds for moms

Getting the perfect bed and mattress for your kid(s) is a big decision for mommies. Choose the right bed and your kids will sleep tight and fall asleep soundly every night. Choose a bad bed and you’re in for trouble - Especially if your kids are more comfortable in your bed than their own!

The first thing a mom needs to look at is the construction style of the bed and what wood it’s made out of. You should try to match the woods and the style to the rest of the house. Also ask your child what they like and don’t like. Involve them in the decision process and they’re more likely to love their own bed and want to sleep in it when it arrives.

If you have two kids, you might opt to get a bunk bed. For example, a full over full bunk bed (below) might be perfect if you have two older kids.
What do you do once you’ve received your bed? Well, the first option is of course to ask your spouse to do it. But what if your spouse isn’t around or doesn’t have the time/inclination to do it?

If you’re handy, you could try to build it yourself. It ain’t easy!! Most moms probably won’t want to do this. Fortunately, if you have trouble constructing the bed yourself, you can look on Craigslist.
There are plenty of people on Craigslist who will put together the whole thing for you for a measly $30 to $50. Just post under the “gigs” section and in a day or two you’ll be all set!

Finally you’re left with the mattress. Choosing the right mattress is just as important as choosing the right bed frame. A soft mattress might cost a little more money, but if it means better sleep for your kids, it’s probably worth the money.

That’s all there is to it! Choosing a bed might seem difficult at first, but when you really get into it it’s quite fun. Let your creative side flow!

Thank you so much for posting about these beds. We have been looking to get bunk beds for my too oldest boys and I had no idea you could get a double over a double. So cool. The prices aren't too bad either.

We put in offer down on a condo. If it's accepted, we will be taking down my son's crib when we move and will set up a twin bed in the new condo. So I'm currently on the search for a twin mattress. I'm torn because I want a quality mattress that will last and that will be comfortable, but I need to stick to a budget and can't spend a lot! I hope I can find something I'll be really happy with!

Choosing your kids beds should be fun and it's important to let them help in the selection. If you are going with a bunk bed or loft bed, you may want to consider bunk bed huggers. These fitted comforters make all the difference in how the bed looks and how easy it is to make. This squidoo lens is a great visual comparing the different types of bunk bedding. http://www.squidoo.com/bunk-bed-huggers. Huggers work on all types of beds and they are even easier for younger kids when they are learning to make a bed.
